What is Plein Air painting?Plein air or en plein air, is a French term which refers to painting out-of-doors, on location. Painting plein air was made popular by the French Impressionist, (Manet, Monet, Renoir, et al). The plein air artist faces many challenges in particular the ever changing light and the elements, i.e. wind, rain, snow etc.
What is a paint out?A paint out is a scheduled period of time during which artists are “in the field” painting. Artists participating in The Great Southern Oregon Paint Out will have a limited period of time, 6 hours, in which to turn a “blank canvas” into a completed painting.
The completed paintings will be on display and for sale at Paschal from 3 – 5:30 PM. Each artist will be able to submit their paintings for judging to determine awards. This year’s juror will be internationally recognized, Ashland artist Gabriel Lipper: www.artofgabriel.com . Gabriel Lipper will also be presenting a live plein air painting demonstration from 2:30 – 5:30 PM at Paschal Winery.
The second day of the event, Sunday, June 5th, will be held in conjunction with the Southern Oregon Grape Fair, which will be located in downtown Talent, Oregon. The Southern Oregon Grape Fair will open at 12 Noon. All paintings completed on Saturday will be on display and for sale for the duration of the Southern Oregon Grape Fair.
